The Self & Being a Disciple

The modern preoccupation with the Self can influence in deep ways our ability to "hear" Jesus' call to discipleship and to follow Him. In this sermon we will be made aware of how this is so and be encouraged to be free to follow!

but I hit hard and straight at my own body and lead it off into slavery, lest possibly, after I have been a herald to others, I should myself be rejected.
— 1 Corinthians 9:27 (Weymouth New Testament)

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  • How is the biblical view of Self different from the modern view of Self?

  • How can the modern view effect how we respond to the call to discipleship?

  • Does the call to discipleship negate Self?

  • When Self is expanded to include Christ...how does encounter affect Self?

  • Are you a disciple?

  • Do we die daily?
