Sunday School - Approval Addiction
Teacher: Jill Lamar | Classroom by the Kitchen
Okay, you’ve just gotten through Christmas and New Year’s. Perhaps you feel like you’re ready for a long nap. Or maybe just a nice long soak in the tub. Yet, a whole new year looms ahead. Many of us make New Year’s resolutions that we drop a few weeks into January. But how about looking not just at the behavior you’d like to change, but the underlying reasons for it?
Meyer capably takes readers in hand and sensitively and biblically shows them that the reason we so desperately seek the approval of others is because we haven’t fully realized that we already have the approval and love of the only One who truly matters - our Heavenly Father. If we could only learn to see ourselves as God sees us - as forgiven, beloved children - we’ll be able to break free of the tyranny of perfectionism and, as the Puritans used to sing, “lay our deadly doing down, down at Jesus’s feet; and rest in Him alone, gloriously complete.” Doesn’t that sound enticing? Perhaps even too good to be true? But that’s how God’s grace is: unfathomable, incomprehensible, and completely unwarrented by anything we say or do.
Come join the women of Crossroads on Sunday mornings at 9:00am as we learn to see ourselves through the lens of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross- and let the truth of our state in Him - and in our Father’s eyes - be what drives us forward; not into more perfectionism and busyness, but to His feet in worship, surrounded by His loving, protecting arms.
