Fear of the Lord: The Day

There is a Final Day coming...sometimes simply referred to in the Bible as "The Day". The implications of this are to be pervasive in our lives and actually lead to great blessings in this life. But this is very counter cultural and, according to Jesus, it is vital we grasp this truth. Third installment of the Fear of the Lord series.

And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!
— Luke 12:4-5

Proverbs 9:10   “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 1:7   The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Ephesians 2:8-10   For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

James 2:18   But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Hebrews 9:27   And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,

Romans 2:5   But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Romans 14:10,12   But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ…..12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

Matthew 16:27   For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

Matthew 25:32   All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.  (Gave food, drink, clothes, hospitality, visited)

Acts 10:42    And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

Acts 17:30-31   Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

2 Corinthians 5:9-11   Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 11 Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.

Romans 2:16   in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

Romans 12:2   And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Colossians 1:9-10   For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Philippians 1:9-10   And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

Colossians 3:22   Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.

Psalm 1:1-3  Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
