Church History

On an overcast Sunday, October 18, 1987, a group of 47 people met in the basement of Bill and Vonna Murrin’s home. This meeting was the culmination of much prayer and a desire for fellowship. Love permeated the meeting. The following Sunday, 80 people came to the meeting. It was obvious that a bigger meeting place was needed.

The Greenville Sportsmen’s Club agreed to let us hold services. The only charge for the first year was the cost of the utilities. We began with nothing, but soon carpet was donated; songbooks were ordered; and chairs, a piano, and an organ were provided. In a few weeks, a pulpit built by David Fry appeared. The new church was named Crossroads Christian Fellowship.

Crossroads was gaining in attendance. Regular Friday evening business meetings were well attended and decisions were prayerfully made. Our first pastors were licensed members Bill Murrin and Ron Courtney. Soon a formal constitution was written and a building fund was started. In May of 1988, an ingathering was held and over 140 people joined the new church.

Jim and Patty Murrin donated the land where the present church building stands. The groundbreaking took place on Sunday, June 25, 1989. Many donated time to clear the land. Prayer was our main focus and God provided many miracles during the construction process. Soon the walls were erected and much of the inside work was done by church members.

Finally the work was completed and the dedication was held October 6, 1991. Our journey to a new building had been completed in four years. That first service in the new building was a time of gratitude to our great God for all His blessings toward us. The dedication and laying of the cornerstone was a very moving service.

In our over 20 years we have called three pastors and seen many changes, but we have held fast to our core values. We love God first and always love one another. We have seen many of our older members go to be with the Lord and we rejoice in how they have touched our lives.
