Statement of Faith: The Apostles' Creed We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Bible is God's unique revelation to people. It is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and the supreme and final authority on all matters of faith and practice. No other writings are vested with such divine authority. There is only one God, Creator of heaven and earth, Who exists eternally as three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each of Whom is fully God and yet distinct from the others. Apart from Jesus Christ, all people (because of sin) are spiritually lost and deserve the judgment of God. However, God gives salvation and eternal life to anyone who trusts in Jesus Christ and in His sacrifice on his/her behalf. Salvation cannot be earned through personal goodness or human effort; it is a gift of God. Jesus Christ, second Person of the Trinity, was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless human life, willingly took upon Himself all of our sins, died and rose again bodily, and is at the right hand of the Father as our advocate and mediator. Some day He will return to consummate history and to fulfill the eternal plan of God. The Holy Spirit, third Person of the Trinity, convicts the world of sin and draws people to Christ. He indwells all believers. He is available to empower them to lead Christ-like lives and to witness for the Lord. He imparts spiritual gifts to believers so that they can effectively serve the Church and reach out to a lost and needy world. Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. At the final judgment unbelievers will be separated from God into condemnation. Believers will be received into God's loving presence and rewarded for their faithfulness to Him in this life. All believers are members of the Body of Christ, the one true Church universal. Spiritual unity is to be expressed among Christians by acceptance of and love for one another across ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, national, generational, gender, and denominational lines. The local church is a congregation of believers who gather for worship, prayer, instruction, encouragement, mutual accountability, and community with each other. Through it believers invest time, energy, and resources to fulfill the Great Commission — reaching lost people and growing them into fully devoted followers of Christ. Biblical Authority We value the Bible as God's trustworthy, authoritative Word, study it together, and build our lives on its truth. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21) Personal Salvation We value the free gift of eternal salvation in Christ Jesus and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in human experience. (Romans 3:21-26, 6:23, 8:1-17, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:8-10) Heartfelt Worship We value fervent, upbeat worship that honors God and assists people to a healthy enjoyment of Him. (Psalms 63:1-5, 100, 150) Committed Living We value serious discipleship that is marked by obedience, self-denial, and full consecration of time, talent, and treasure. (Matthew 10:37-39, Luke 14:25-33, Romans 12:1-2) Loving Relationships We value warm, accepting, mutually-supportive relationships with fellow believers in our congregation and in the larger Body of Christ. (John 13:35-36, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 4:1-6) Faithful Service We value spiritual gifts and the employment of them in joyful, conscientious service for the Lord. (Romans 12:3 -8, 1 Corinthians 12; 1 Peter 4:10-11) Christian Compassion We value expressions of Christlike love that meet others at their point of need and relieve suffering. (Matthew 25:31-46, James 1:26-27, 2:14-26, 1 John 3:17-18) Redemptive Mission We accept our mission to make Christ known and to minister redemptively in the world. (Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:45-48, John 20:21-22, Acts 1:8, 2 Corinthians 5:11-21) Continual Reliance We confess our dependence on God for everything and recognize the importance of prayer for victorious living and service. (Mark 11:22-24, John 14:12-14, 15:5, 7-8, 16:24) Sustained Excellence We affirm the importance of giving our first and best to God and of rising beyond mediocrity to excellence. (Proverbs 3:9-10, Haggai 1:2-11, Malachi 1:6-14, Mark 14:3-9) |
